Cold War

Too cold to breathe
Too cold to talk
The ice is slippery and it’s hard to walk

It’s all quiet
And so serene
It’s just me and the evergreens

How did I end up here
Upon this lake of frozen tears
My heart is numb
And winter’s just begun

‘Cause nothing grows when
The ground is hard and frozen
On this path I’ve chosen
I will feel no pain

The icy winds
Made me freeze
So I burned all my memories

Then I made friends
With the frost
So far from home but I’m not lost

Give me your best
I’ll make no peace
There’s a cold sun rising in the east
Like the day before
And forevermore

‘Cause nothing grows when
The ground is hard and frozen
On this path I’ve chosen
I will feel no pain

No I won’t surrender,
I’ve learned to endure
‘Cause you can’t hurt me
Now that I’m chilled to the core
In this cold, cold war

Solo

‘Cause nothing grows when
The ground is hard and frozen
On this path I’ve chosen
I will feel no pain

‘Cause nothing grows when
The ground is hard and frozen
On this path I’ve chosen
I will feel no pain
No, you can’t hurt me
In this cold, cold war.

Hindenburg

Like a moth you’re drawn to the flame, you just can’t help it
No warning signs could ever keep you off this road you’re heading down

My dear,
It seems to me you’ve started building fences
It seems to me you’re shutting people out
It looks as though you’re under false pretenses
What is this all about?

You know, you’ll go down
Too close to the sun again
Ask Icarus, he knows how this will end
You know, you’ll go down
Burning up like Hindenburg
Be careful where you step, my friend
‘Cause history repeats itself again

There’s fire in your eyes, as you turn to me and say
That the stakes are high, and that you would rather burn than fade away

But hey,
It seems to me you make yourself defenseless
When you keep on shutting people out
You’ll soon be all alone down in your trenches
That’s not what you’re about

You know, you’ll go down
Too close to the sun again
Ask Icarus, he knows how this will end
You know, you’ll go down
Burning up like Hindenburg
Be careful where you step, my friend
‘Cause history repeats itself again

Burning up like Hindenburg
Be careful where you step, my friend
‘Cause history repeats itself again
Again, again, again again again

You know you’ll go down,
Burning up like Hindenburg
Be careful where you step, my friend
‘Cause history repeats itself again

Half a Heart

If I would let you love me
I know it won’t be long
’til you feel that something is missing
’til you feel something’s wrong

And you would try to love me harder
Yes you would work for two
And I would need to convince you
That it’s me, it’s not you

And I know how it would end
It’s better not to start

Don’t fall for a woman
with only half a heart

You see my heart was broken
It was scattered on the ground
And when I tried to mend it
Some pieces were never found

And now there’s no way to put it together
No instructions to read
And I will never be able
To give you what you need

And I know how it would end
It’s better not to start

Don’t fall for a woman
with only half a heart

Yes I know how it would end
It’s better not to start

Don’t fall for a woman
No, I won’t let it happen
Don’t fall for this woman
with only half a heart

Pockets Full of Sand

The raging sea is greeting me upon the outer banks
I’m stuck here where the water turns to foam
The eastern wind is telling stories and filling out the blanks
It seems I’ve missed a lot since I left home

I traded everything I knew, I sold it all to cheap
I thought I had to travel light on the path I chose
But my life here sure ain't looking like I pictured it to be
And nothing like the letters I compose

And these waves keep crashing in against these shores
Carolina, understand
That I can’t go home, I have to hold my course
No, I will not return with empty hands
And pockets full of sand

I made a friend, the only one I felt that I could trust
We used to share a drink when times got rough
We laughed and we cried and watched our dreams wither into dust
And realised hard work is not enough

And these waves keep crashing in against these shores
Carolina, understand
That I can’t go home, I have to hold my course
No, I will not return with empty hands
And pockets full of sand

On a night like this I’m thinking ‘bout the ones I left behind
The promises I never would fulfill
When I told them I was leaving, they thought I’d lost my mind
I wonder if they’re waiting for me still?

And these waves keep crashing in against these shores
Carolina, understand
That I can’t go home, I have to hold my course
No, I will not return with empty hands
And pockets full of sand

And these waves keep crashing in against these shores
Carolina understand
That I can’t go home, I have to hold my course
No, I cannot return with empty hands
No, I will not return with empty hands
And pockets full of sand

Midsummer Night's Dream

Seven kinds of flowers in a crown upon your hair
We’ve been dancing all day long,
would you like to go somewhere?

There’s still light, let’s find a place where we can celebrate
You’re so sweet and I don’t care
If it’s early, or it’s late

In this land between night and day
Reality’s torn at the seams
The mist on the water whisper our names
It’s calling us down the stream
In this midsummer night’s dream

No-one’s looking at the map
We’ve got too much to say
Driving ’til we find this lake
The perfect place to stay

In this land between night and day
Reality’s torn at the seams
The mist on the water whisper our names
It’s calling us down the stream
In this midsummer night’s dream

We stand before the fairy king
He declares us man and wife
Beneath the sun that never sets
Our love will have eternal life

In this land between night and day
Reality’s torn at the seams
The mist on the water whisper our names
It’s calling us down the stream
‘Cause things may not be what they seem
In this midsummer night’s dream

Circus

Feels like it was yesterday when the circus came to town
My brother was the lion, and my cousin was the clown

We were dancing on a wire
A thousand feet up in the air
My brother jumped through rings of fire
Like he had a thousand lives to spare

I remember being fearless, dancing through the skies
And I still hear adventure’s call when I close my eyes

I’m flying through the air with ease
Like nothing ever could go wrong
They’re reaching out from the trapeze
They’re reaching out for me to come along

But I’ve grown fears over the years
And my roots have grown much deeper into my backyard
And the wire is so much higher, there’s so much more to lose
And the fall would be so hard

Today I joined the circus
Tonight is my first show
And I will learn to fly again
All I need is to let go

Doing Time

No more excuses
No more of your lies
If you won’t do it
I’ll say your goodbyes

I thought that I held you
You were just being kind
Every hour we’re not letting go
We are doing time

It sure isn’t easy
to break my own heart
We’ll be better people
Once we are apart

I thought that I held you
You were just being kind
Every hour we’re not letting go
We are doing time

I thought that I held you
You were just being kind
Every hour we’re not letting go
We are doing time

We are doing time
We are doing time
